About Antrim County
As you head north out of Traverse City along East Grand Traverse Bay, you cross into beautiful Antrim County, distinguished by rolling terrain and dotted with lakes and rivers. Antrim is bordered on the east by the spectacular Jordan River Valley and on the west by Grand Traverse Bay and Lake Michigan. Charlevoix County lies to
the north and Kalkaska County to the south.
The Chain O’ Lakes, in Antrim County, is an interconnecting series of lakes which is truly a boating and fishing paradise. The Lower Chain O’ Lakes consists of Elk Lake, Lake Skegemog, Torch Lake, Clam Lake, Lake Bellaire, and Intermediate Lake. The Upper Chain O’ Lakes includes St. Clair Lake,
Ellsworth Lake, Wilson Lake, Benway Lake, Hanley Lake, and Six Mile Lake.
The charming village of Elk Rapids is about eighteen miles northeast of Traverse City at the spot where Elk Lake empties into Grand Traverse Bay. Its quaint atmosphere and world class marina help to make Elk Rapids a popular destination for people from all walks of life. The annual “Harbor Days” celebration has become a part of the culture of
northwest lower Michigan.
